I learned something new about photography the other day, and it was like a door opened in my brain. My new knowledge allowed me to take this odd photo above. No Photoshop and no multiple exposure. Let me tell you how I did it.

I finally did it! I bought a Razer mouse. I am now officially one of "those guys." You know, the guys with the bright lights inside their computer. Those guys who use words like "frag" and say "GG." You know, gamerz. Those dudes who own a Razer mouse because it makes them deadlier in online games. You know what the funny thing is? I think everyone should buy one of these mice. Razer is the Rolls Royce of mice.

What a great year for tech. Things are kind of slow right now, but the rest of the year looks like it will be off the charts. Here's the news that has me interested this year.

Just the other day, Sony announced that it has stopped production of the PS2. It sold over 150 million units in its lifetime, making it arguably the most successful console of all time. This is old news by now, but I got a little emotional about it. To me, the PS2 is the best gadget I ever bought. It gave me more happiness than any other gizmo I own, borrowed or stole. I spent hundreds of hours playing on it. I was a late bloomer to console gaming (before my PS2 we had a Sega Genesis), and it introduced me to Final Fantasy, Tekken, Gran Turismo. And then there were the classics like Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, God of War, and Twisted Metal. I could go on forever.
Now I'm getting senti. When I bought it during its launch in 2000, I had my friend buy it from the US. I only had enough money for the console, so I didn't tell my friend to buy games, thinking that I could buy games later. PS2 games didn't hit the Philippines until a couple of months later, so I spent an agonizing few weeks just staring at my PS2. Hahaha! At least it made a swell DVD player. Once the games came out, I spent the next few years practically glued to the controller.
Ah, those were the days. I dug up my PS2 Fat (pictured above) and it is still alive and in perfect working order. They sure don't make gaming consoles like they used to.

I promised myself that I would try out this app. It's called looloo and it's a discovery app – basically it gives you short reviews on everything from restaurants to stores to travel destinations. (And it's local!) Or if you're somewhere and you want to review the place, just hammer away on your virtual keypad to get the word out. It's all about sharing nowadays.

Babaw thrill of the day: I was looking for a built-in card reader for my blackintosh, and I found one in CD-R King that was actually more awesome than what I was hunting for. This one has a built-in drive bay where you can slot in 2.5-inch hard drives without cracking open the case. No more need for external hard drive enclosures, and it's hot-swappable. You don't even need to reboot. If you've got a lot of old 2.5-inch hard drives lying around, this is really useful! The cost? P990.

Okay pirates, you don't need to steal Adobe Photoshop anymore. They're giving it away for free on their website. All you have to do is register.
If you're the glass half-full kind of person, this is great news. You get the entire CS2 suite, including Photoshop. Even this version of Photoshop will be able to do most of the things you need from a photo editing program, just not the fancy new stuff like healing brushes and junk like that.
If you're the glass is half-empty kind of person, CS2 is something like eight years old. And oh the hassle, you have to register? It's also for older Macs and PCs, which yours probably isn't, but if it is, you're in luck.

I've been meaning to do this for years, and I mean years. While I was cleaning the house (spring cleaning!), I stumbled upon my old electric guitar and effects. I don't know what possessed me. I built a pedal board in two days. One day for planning and research and shopping. Another day (just the afternoon) for putting it all together.

It's the yearly Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas: NERDVANA! Past years have been a little disappointing, but 2013 is getting off to a stellar start. We've got the usual parade of tablets, but we also have lots of weird new cameras, and surprise surprise, gaming consoles. Here are my early picks.
