Hot camera price list and comparison

So many cameras, so many prices, and now finally a list with all of them together so you can compare to your heart's content.

I don't have the money to buy a camera right now. But I can dream. That's why I made this list of prices of recent hot releases in cameras. There's a lot!

Mountain Lion Rant

They're calling it the operating system that Lion should have been. Reviews are saying that it fixes many of Lion's glaring issues. (Here's the mother of all Mountain Lion reviews from Ars Technica.) And if you haven't upgraded to Lion, Mountain Lion is a great time to experience the future that Apple is promising. Things like iCloud and Twitter integration. You know, things that were promised with Lion when it was released.

What I want to know is this: Apple, why are you charging me $20 for something that you should have gotten right the first time around?

Canon goes mirrorless with the EOS M

Canon just announced its new mirrorless camera, the EOS M. If you thought the G1X was their answer to the rising popularity of mirrorless systems (I sure did), the EOS-M will come as a pleasant surprise. Does this camera look like a winner? Or do they have a lot of catching up to do with the Micro Four Thirds gang and Sony? Here are more details:

Panasonic LX7 is amazing or disappointing?

Panasonic announced the successor to the popular LX5 the other day, the LX7. I'm pretty excited about this release because the LX5 is one of the best compact cameras that you can buy. Whenever someone would ask me what compact camera they should buy, I'd always answer with the LX5. And now it's getting updated!

iPad Price Comparison

Thought I'd do an iPad price comparison like my MacBook price comparison and share it here. The other day, my iPad 1 one finally died. It might have been just old. It might have been because my toddler is very rough with the iPad. He stands on it and drags it on the floor before anyone can save the poor iPad. Mysteriously, quietly, the iPad died the other day. Tried my best to revive it, but nothing the forums said I should do actually worked. So now I'm looking for a new iPad to fill in the iPad-shaped hole in my life. It was time anyway. Here's an analysis of local retail prices (with Apple Store US prices thrown in).

Panasonic 14mm f/2.5 Review

I've reviewed the Panasonic GF3 and now here's the review of the 14mm f/2.5 pancake lens. This has got to be the smallest, cheapest, best-value lens for the Micro Four Thirds system. Sure there are brighter ones, wider ones, and sharper ones, but this one takes the cake in size-price-image quality.

Steam Sale! Hide your credit cards!

In case you missed it, Steam is currently on sale right now. The sale will last until the 22nd and has new offers everyday.

Third World Nerd's picks:
Botanicula, 33%off, now $6.69
Because I like these quirky little games

Assassin's Creed Revelations 66% off, now $13.59
Haven't played this yet, and need to catch up with the story for maximum enjoyment of Assassin's Creed III.

Rage, 67% off, now $9.99
It's a shooter from id. That's enough for me.

Rockstar Hit Collection (GTA IV, GTA Liberty City, L.A. Noire, Max Payne), 58% off, $49.99
Sick of GTA already, but L.A. Noire and Max Payne? Sign me up!

It's just too bad most of these games are for PC only. Time to dual boot my Mac I guess. Head on over to your Steam client to check out the sale. And if you haven't downloaded Steam yet, do it do it!

PlayStation Plus review

For years I've been ignoring the PS3's premium service, PlayStation Plus. It promised games at significant discounts, but I just couldn't be bothered. Now it seems that PlayStation Plus' time has come, with the promise of a bunch of free full retail games as soon as you sign up for membership -- an offer that was launched in this year's E3. It sounded like a sweet deal, so I took the plunge. I am now a happy gamer.

Apple MacBook price comparison

New MBP in the house!

It's time to upgrade our aging computers at home, so I made a little price comparison chart for major retail Apple resellers and other places where you can buy Apple MacBooks. Thought I'd share it with you guys. Full breakdown after the jump.

Panasonic Lumix GF3 Review

Alright, I've been living with the Panasonic GF3 for a few weeks now and here's the full review. But first, confession time. I would never have bought this camera if it wasn't on sale in Amazon. I had heard some not-so-good things about it. But it was selling for around $300 (55% off!), roughly the same price as the lens that it was bundled with, the Panasonic 14mm f/2.5. I really wanted the lens. So I bought the camera.

Don't worry, it wasn't an impulse buy. I had actually done my homework. My wife was looking for a camera that was smaller than our Olympus E-P3, but she also wanted a camera that had similar image quality. I knew the GF3 fit those requirements. And if we were going to use it as a point and shoot, all those not-so-good things I read about didn't matter so much. Right? Or am I just trying to convince myself for buying a lemon?
