Grado SR60i headphones are everything they're cracked up to be

So it was my birthday the other week, and my brother -- bless his soul! -- gave me a pair of Grado headphones. He really knows what makes this nerd happy. I've said it in this blog before: I've always wanted Grado headphones but I've never been able to make myself buy a pair. Problem solved, thanks to my bro. Were the Grados worth the wait? In a competitive market of very capable headphones as well as gimmicky "beats," the answer is still "You betcha." Watch me jump on the Grado bandwagon and bang the drum.

New Olympus lenses

What is this? Some kind of addiction? It seems like every announcement camera companies make nowadays has me planning on how to embezzle money from my son's college fund. Along with the announcement of the Olympus E-M5 came the official announcement of two new lenses, a 75mm f/1.8 Portrait lens, and a 60mm f/2.8 Macro.

PS Vita Spotting

This may or may not have been available for a while now. I don't get out much these days. But I got excited like a twelve-year-old girl to find Sony's new handheld, the PlayStation Vita available here (and look! there's Uncharted Golden Abyss too!), at Datablitz, Power Plant, a full two to three days before the US launch. I didn't get a closer look, but it's probably a Japanese import. In retrospect, I should have asked for the price, but I was too scared that I would buy it on the spot so I didn't dare to go in. I always come out of that shop significantly poorer and the salesgirls know me by name.

UPDATE: It looks like the Vita is everywhere now. Well, at least in Greenhills. Here's a pic of a couple of Vitas in Astrovision, Virra Mall:

No, I'm not buying an Olympus E-M5, but I wish I were

So the Olympus E-M5 was officially announced last Wednesday, and everyone is asking me if I'm going to get one. No doubt, this is because I'm so gung-ho about the Micro Four Thirds system, and I seem to be the exact person this camera is targeted at. The answer to the question is NO, in case you were wondering. But it's really more of a NO, I WISH.

Enough about me, let's talk about the camera first.

Camera Sale: Leica M4-P

More awesome sauce coming your way. Today's Third World Nerd camera sale is an absolute classic: a Leica M4-P.

Yes, this is, of course, a film camera. I should say it is THE film camera. Because if you want to dabble in the dark arts of film, this is the camera to get.

Mirrorless cameras are getting weirder

Look at these two freshly launched weirdzos. Mirrorless cameras are really hot right now, and getting more and more bizarre.

Camera Sale: Nikon D300

Yes, we're selling stuff on Third World Nerd! Nikon cameras, and even Leica cameras. Awesome sauce!

The first camera we have for you is the Nikon D300, once the DX format flagship of Nikon. It's an excellent DSLR that I daresay is just as good today as it was when it was first released.

Belated Happy CNY! CES 2012…BUST! And other late posts

It's not too late to wish everyone a happy Chinese New Year is it? I still have tikoy in my fridge, so the holiday is officially not over. Let me just take this opportunity to make this much-delayed post.
