Why I didn't buy an iPad mini

Nope.

I couldn't get myself to buy an iPad mini. I waited months for it. I even said I'd probably buy one. But when the time came to buy a new tablet, I got a full-sized iPad instead.

I'd venture that my reasons are the same reasons why iPad mini reception has been lukewarm -- well, as lukewarm as 3 million in total iPad sales (iPad mini and iPad 4) in three days can be. And here's why:

Size matters
I want a bigger iPad screen, not a smaller one. I know, I know. I'm in the minority here. Most people want their mobile devices to be thinner, smaller, lighter, etc. Meanwhile, I want a true A4 tablet, one where I can read comics, docs, and magazines in full size, instead of slightly shrunken. Looks to me like Google's Nexus 10 is a step in the right direction. I'm immune to the lure of a smaller tablet. And really, how small and light does a tablet have to be? My wrists aren't that weak.

The price isn't right
When I crunched the numbers, the iPad mini price doesn't make much sense. The cheapest model will set you back by $329. Things cost 15-20% more here, so that's an estimated price of P15,990 (just my guess). Compare that to P18,990 for the iPad 2, P20,990 for the iPad 3 (while supplies last), and P23,990 for the new iPad (again, this price is my best guess). You can even get an iPad 3 for around P18,000 if you pay in cash, or you can get some crazy financing (up to 24 frikkin' months).

The mini's price is not cheap enough for me to give up a full-sized screen or a retina display. And once you're in the 16K ballpark, what's a few thousand more for an iPad 2 or 3?

Also, I did some checking, and the current going price for the iPad mini is P18,900. What's up with that?

So no iPad mini for me. I still think it will sell in decent numbers and slow down the advance of Android tablets because a cheaper tablet is still a cheaper tablet. Meanwhile, other people like small gizmos. But other than that, I can't think of one good reason to get an iPad mini...

The real reason I got another iPad: this guy. He already has a bunch of kids' apps from iTunes.
