84 inches. Now that's a big TV.
And here I was, so happy with my 46 inches. I now think of my new TV as a "big, budget TV" because it was a pretty sweet deal for a high quality set. Meanwhile if you have P800,000+ to spend, LG's got you sorted with this BIG BUDGET TV... Get it?
Anyway. I've actually seen bigger. Saw a 108-incher in a trade show once. But that didn't have 4K resolution. This one from LG does.
LG has named this set "The World's Largest 84" Ultra HD 3D TV." What exactly does that mean? Simple: No tech was spared in making this TV. Here goes…
1. Ultra HD is what they're calling 4K resolution nowadays. For pixel counters, Ultra HD is 3840 x 2160 pixels, or 2160p. Compare that to 1080p or "Full" HD which has a mere 1920 x 1080 pixels. What it all means is that the picture size is almost four times the size of 1080p. That's good news for a TV of this size, and it also means you're future-proof.
2. It's 3D too.
3. It's also a "Smart" TV, which means it has a bunch of apps (1,400 of them) that you play around with using the Magic Remote, which works kind of like a Wiimote.
Of course, it has to be said that 4K movies are difficult to find right now. But don't worry, 4K movies are also supposedly the future. (The Hobbit was filmed in 4K.) So if you're after Ultra HD, this 84-inch TV is more like the TV of the future than it is the TV of the present. Meanwhile if you're going for size and you've got P800,000+ to spare, run over to Anson's Makati and have a look. And don't forget to wear your 3D shades.
