My Book Live Duo Review

Everyone is saying that the Cloud is the future. But let's face it, Cloud services aren't quite there yet. Sure, you can place all your docs in Google docs. You can listen to music and videos from streaming services or from YouTube. But when it comes to putting the gigabytes worth of YOUR movies/music/photos, this Cloud thing hasn't quite arrived yet. Enter the My Book Live Duo from Western Digital.

Fun with Flash

Just when I said in a previous post that flash photography wasn't my thing, I learned how to do something cool with my flash. If you've got an external flash like the el cheapo Nissin Di466 (or better), and a pop-up flash in your camera, you're in business! You can use your pop-up flash to trigger your external flash and achieve all kinds of different lighting effects.

You don't need any extra gear (except maybe a reflector/illustration board) and you'll have a host of brand new shooting/lighting techniques.

My Book Live Duo Unboxing

I give you the unboxing of the Western Digital My Book Live Duo, or more accurately, Your Cloud. Think of it as your little corner of the Internet with all your stuff in it (4TB out of the box), accessible to you wherever you are, from your iPad, your smart phone or your co-worker's computer.

Olympus E-M5 Philippine launch

Last week Olympus officially launched the camera that I'm waiting for, the O-MD E-M5, here in the Philippines in an event at EDSA Shangri-la. Now I know I said that I probably wouldn't be buying one anytime soon -- lenses come first -- but the more I see of this camera, the more my resolve is weakening. It really looks awesome!

Mind Museum Sneak Peek

The other day, my wife and I plus our boy Vito got a sneak peek of Mind Museum, the Philippines' first dedicated interactive science museum in Bonifacio Global City. The wifey was invited as a blogger by Sun Life, who will be having an exhibit there one day soon (more on that later). Vito and I came along just for fun.

In Memory of Ralph McQuarrie

When I was growing up, this was one of the pictures on my wall. My father had bought a collection of prints (the Return of the Jedi Portfolio) featuring the concept art of Star Wars by Ralph McQuarrie. In what turned out to be a brilliant idea, he framed these and placed them all over the room I shared with my brother. I demanded that the painting of the A-wing be hung closest to my bed because I was big on the space battles. Over the years, the painting that kept drawing me in was the one with Luke and Darth Vader (pictured above).
