Nintendo 3DS vs Sony NGP…fight!

So Sony's next big thing, the Next Generation Portable, a.k.a. NGP, a.k.a. PSP2, has been announced and critics and fans are all drooling. Meanwhile, the Nintendo 3DS launch date is on the horizon. I'm seriously torn between these two new handheld gaming consoles. They're both supremely powerful as gaming devices go. They're both gorgeous. And they both promise to change portable gaming. I probably only have enough money for one of them. Fiddlesticks.

Real guitar on Rock Band 3

OMG, someone's done it. Someone's finally got a real electric guitar working with Rock Band 3. Take note, it's not with the upcoming Squier electric guitar, mind you, but with a regular electric guitar. Warning: it's not simple, and so far, it doesn't look like a very cheap solution. But we're getting there. More details can be found here. You can view some videos about the project, game2midi, too.

Make a cheap flash diffuser with a ping pong ball

I'm not a big fan of built-in flashes. I've found flash photography to look pleasing only with a proper flash unit (used properly). I'm too cheap to buy one now. But sometimes I need to use the flash. Here's a cheap fix: use a ping pong ball as a diffuser for your flash. Here's how:

How to do long exposure photography

I've always been a sucker for those photos of traffic with streaks of light. They're done using a technique called long exposure, and it was one of the first things I learned to do with a camera back when I was using a five-megapixel Sony compact (a year ago). The technique also works with fireworks. It's not hard to do, and if I can do it, anyone can do it.

Top 10 iPhone apps for Pinoys

Recently wrote an article for Spot about Top 10 iPhone/iPod apps for Pinoys, and it's up already. You can check it out here. Like I said in the article, choosing just ten apps is an impossible task, so I expected some controversy. Bring it! Hahaha.

To Rockmelt or not to Rockmelt?

Fifteen minutes into Rockmelt and I was addicted. I had my Facebook, my Twitter, and my favorite RSS feeds all chirping notifications at me. Here was a new browser which promised to change my surfing habits forever. I'd been hearing a lot of good things about Rockmelt, so I decided to give it a try.

CES 2011? Third World Nerd's picks

I'm seriously underwhelmed by this year's Consumer Electronics Show. Every year, it's a wonderland of crazy futuristic gear, full of robots and unbelievable tech. This year, things were looking very…safe. And no robots reached the headlines. With the exception of a couple of gizmos at the end of this post, I was quite disappointed. But we still have some great tech to look forward to. Here are my picks!

Apple Sony Nintendo Mashup or how to turn your Mac into a retro gaming console

To me, Macs mean work. As the chosen platform of most creative industries, Macs are what I've been staring at most of my working life. When I kick back, I turn on a gaming console. But it doesn't have to be that way. Your Mac can be a retro gaming machine too.
