Boy do I have a lot of catching up to do. This Sony 3D TV event happened over a week ago and I'm only posting it now. So much backlog… So much work… So many things to worry about… Let's forget all that stuff right now because 3D TV is here, and it's awesome!
You can't see it here, but the 3D stuff really does jump out at you. The pictures are dark because they held the event in, like, pitch darkness. I'm guessing this was to help with the TV's contrast. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that if you put on 3D glasses, everything gets darker. Consider it a not-so-subtle way of saying that 3D works best in the dark. We'll probably be stuck with this side effect until they figure out glasses-free 3D tech like the Nintendo 3DS. At any rate, I'm not complaining much because this incarnation of 3D looks amazing.
It's also not cheap. Here's a chart of the TVs available. I was expecting prices in this range, but I was somewhat taken aback by the decision to release only 40+ inch TVs. I guess it's only for people with huge living rooms -- for now.
To take out the sting somewhat, Sony's also providing some nifty bundles. And if you don't have a 3D-capable PS3 or Blu-ray player yet, you'll need one of these extras anyway. The deals are interesting if you haven't blown hundreds of thousands on your home theater system already. There's also a Move bundle I'm keeping an eye on.
