I am not a car person, but this little blue Mazda 2 has made me happy. Like a little boy. We named it Zoom-zoom, as in Mazda's marketing campaign, but we like to think we're referring to the Disney movie Bolt. Zoom-zoom is just an awesome name for a car, and it somehow fits. Speaking of little boys and kiddie movies, the reason we bought the car is for our own little boy, who is on the way. If it were up to me, I'd have much rather bought an Italian leather sofa, but the peace of mind brought about by having a car to drive the wife and baby around in case of milk runs or trips to the hospital is priceless. So why the Mazda 2?
1. It's cheap. We wanted a compact car that was stylish and we couldn't afford a BMW Mini. I think the blue color sold this one. Really.
2. It's not so bad for the environment. Let's face it: all cars are bad for the environment. This one, with its small 1.5L engine is not so bad. I've been proud of my low carbon footprint brought about by taking public transportation everywhere, but I can live with this.
3. It's got zoom. A lot of compact cars have a lawnmower for an engine. This one's got some kick. The Mazda 2 doesn't have a big engine -- not by any measure -- but it's engineered to be super light so paired with the engine it has, performance isn't too shabby.
At the end of the day, this is a fun car. It makes you smile when you look at it, and it's fun to drive. And now I'm off to go for a drive...
